Welcome to the New PKD Media Site
Monday, April 13th, 2009Welcome to the new PKD Media site.
Welcome to the new PKD Media site.
Just a reminder that Mercury and The Murd artist Chad Cicconi will be at the Steel City Con during the weekend of April 24th-26th! He’ll be featured (and doing sketches) at the Comic Geek Speak/Legion of Dudes podcast booth located in the Celebrity area of the Con if I am not mistaken.
Also Comic Geek Speak will debut their Adam “The Murd” Murdough Convention Button/Pin!
Chad Cicconi will also be selling copies of Mercury and The Murd: The Collected Edition (containing the entire “Cosplay of Doom” storyline) as well for $3.99.
Come on down and have a good time!

Saying that Adam walks to the beat of a different drummer is somewhat of an understatement. Steeped in the knowledge and lore of 70′s and current pop culture, “Murd” as he is called by his peers has the skills, know how, and the Muttonchops to get the job done. He is apprehensive on taking on a new partner after losing his previous partner to a promotion within the Aberrant Crimes Unit.

Det. Beck Mercury: A transfer from the Middletown Police Department, Beck spends his days trying to make sense of his new partner, Det. Adam Murdough. His past is a cloudy one, and only he and Captain Jake Bankers know the whole story as to why he’s now a part of Dayton’s Aberrant Crimes Unit.

Lt. Lori Paint: Ambitious and relentless, Lori is the model of what every police officer should be. At least she feels it should be that way. The former partner of Det. Adam Murdough, Lt. Paint tries to work out being in charge of Mercury & The Murd, and reporting to Captain Jake Bankers.
It’s been said that the Lori and “The Murd” once had a relationship, but her promotion to lieutenant (mixed in with Murd’s eclectic ways) may have been the cause of their split.
It’s actually true!
Mercury & The Murd: The Collected Edition, which contains all four chapters of the “Cosplay of Doom!” storyline has landed its way into New Dimension Comics in McMurray, PA!
Some fans of PKD Media know (or have heard) about the issues we’ve had being rejected by Diamond Distribution, which put a big crimp in our plans to get our comics into retailers hands across the country.
However, we are looking into other ways to get our comics to the people. Keep coming to PKDmedia.com because once we open our store (very soon) we will remedy a majority of these problems.
But I must admit, it’s pretty freakin’ cool to see our comic stand side by side with everybody else.
The first step towards world domination starts here.

Ladies & gentlemen, boys & girls,
With the debut of the 2nd Chapter of the “Cosplay of Doom” story-arc, I thought it would be fitting to show you the cover/pinup artwork for this chapter. This piece of art was composed by the one and only Flint Lockjaw, who is collaborating with me on a dramedy/horror/action comic called Greenbrook: Hearts & Spades, due this fall.
You can catch his artwork at http://flintlockjaw.blogspot.com/
Enjoy Chapter Two, featuring artwork by the one and only Dave “Space-Time Condominium” Dwonch!

That’s right, everybody….
PKD Media is coming to Heroes Con for the first time ever!
I’m so stoked; I’ll be sharing a booth with Mercury & The Murd Artist Chad Cicconi, Artist Dave Dwonch (SRG Presents: Gnome, Special Ed, Space-Time Condo) from Big Monster Productions/The Geek Savants, and Unified School District MC/Artist/Geek Savant John “Superugly” Williams.
We’ll be at Booth 934, trying to take the comics and art world by storm.
If you want to see what we’re offering (comics, art, sketches), click here to find out!
See you there!

I’ve finally recovered from the weekend that was Heroes Con. It was the first time that PKD Media ever had a booth at this show, so I decided to team up with some friends of mine:
(From left to right: Chad Cicconi, Shawn Pryor, John “Superugly” Williams, and Dave Dwonch)
After a rough check-in, these guys helped make this weekend a blast. I sold a good number of copies of “PKD Media Presents #1″ and “Mercury & The Murd: The Collected Edition,” and I even got the chance to have a quick chat with Mark Waid, one of the best writers in the comics industry. If you don’t know who Mark Waid is, click here and it’ll be explained to you.
The real stars of the PKD Media/Big Monster Productions Booth at Heroes Con were Chad, Ugly, and Dave. They had a steady flow of traffic and were sketching like crazy all weekend. Here’s a look at some of their Heroes Con sketches:

Deadpool/Deathstroke & Hawkman/Hawkgirl By Dave Dwonch

Batman & Kermit the Frog by Chad Cicconi

The Hulk & Hawkman/Hawkgirl by John “SuperUgly” Williams
I can’t say enough how talented these three are. If you didn’t get a sketch from these guys then you really missed out. I’ve had the pleasure of working with both Chad and Dave on numerous occasions (Mercury & The Murd, PKD Media Presents, etc) and in the near future I’ll have a “Ugly” painting on my wall.
I also want to take the time out to say thanks to those who bought a copy of “PKD Media Presents #1″ and “Mercury & The Murd: The Collected Edition” during Heroes Con. A lot of folks from the Comic Forums gave us a lot of love over the weekend (I wish I could remember everybody’s names!) and we are all truly thankful because without you, this con would not have been the same. Thanks for the love and support. Mad props to everyone, and I do mean everyone that stopped by. I even got the opportunity to record with The Geek Savants podcast.
Oh, I almost forgot that Dave & John met Scott Adsit (Pete from 30 Rock!)

Good times, good food, great friends = a great show. Traffic wise, Friday was steady, Saturday was jammed full (plus the DUB City Tour was in the next hall), and Sunday was slow.
I’ll be posting my con purchases and other Con pictures this weekend, I promise!
This show is truly all about comics and the art of comics. I’ll definitely be back next year. This report doesn’t do this show justice because I know there are a ton of things that I haven’t talked about. All I know is that if you love comics, then you need to go to Heroes Con.

P.S. – Mad props to John’s wife, Kellie for getting us beverages and food while we were doing our thing at the booth. Thanks for putting up with a bunch of nerds like us.
P.P.S. – Another set of props goes out to Jason Martin of SuperReal Graphics. Thanks for giving me some insight on the industry, being a really cool dude and knowing the lyrics to “Ya Mo B There” by Michael McDonald & James Ingram.
P.P.P.S. – I promise to post the pics this weekend. I promise!
That’s the Michael Jackson I remember.
I’ll be brief about this.
Michael changed pop music, music videos, the recording industry, and pop culture in general. He’s one of a handful of people that is “iconic” to a entire world.
Even though over the past 15 years he’s been more of a media spectacle and troubled, enabled soul than a recording artist, all I know is that right now three children lost a father, and a father outlived his son.
However, in the whole perspective of things, nearly 1 out of 10 Americans are unemployed, North Korea has nuclear weapons, and Iran has severe election issues.
No matter what, life moves on and we must reflect and move on.
R.I.P., Mr. Jackson.
