PKD Media Report: The Heroes Con Wrap Up

I’ve finally recovered from the weekend that was Heroes Con. It was the first time that PKD Media ever had a booth at this show, so I decided to team up with some friends of mine:

pkdmedia-bigmonsterprod(From left to right: Chad Cicconi, Shawn Pryor, John “Superugly” Williams, and Dave Dwonch)

After a rough check-in, these guys helped make this weekend a blast. I sold a good number of copies of “PKD Media Presents #1″ and “Mercury & The Murd: The Collected Edition,” and I even got the chance to have a quick chat with Mark Waid, one of the best writers in the comics industry. If you don’t know who Mark Waid is, click here and it’ll be explained to you.

The real stars of the PKD Media/Big Monster Productions Booth at Heroes Con were Chad, Ugly, and Dave. They had a steady flow of traffic and were sketching like crazy all weekend.  Here’s a look at some of their Heroes Con sketches:

I can’t say enough how talented these three are. If you didn’t get a sketch from these guys then you really missed out. I’ve had the pleasure of working with both Chad and Dave on numerous occasions (Mercury & The Murd, PKD Media Presents, etc) and in the near future I’ll have a “Ugly” painting on my wall.

I also want to take the time out to say thanks to those who bought a copy of “PKD Media Presents #1″ and “Mercury & The Murd: The Collected Edition” during Heroes Con. A lot of folks from the Comic Forums gave us a lot of love over the weekend (I wish I could remember everybody’s names!) and we are all truly thankful because without you, this con would not have been the same. Thanks for the love and support. Mad props to everyone, and I do mean everyone that stopped by. I even got the opportunity to record with The Geek Savants podcast.

Oh, I almost forgot that Dave & John met Scott Adsit (Pete from 30 Rock!)

Good times, good food, great friends = a great show. Traffic wise, Friday was steady, Saturday was jammed full (plus the DUB City Tour was in the next hall), and Sunday was slow.

I’ll be posting my con purchases and other Con pictures this weekend, I promise!

This show is truly all about comics and the art of comics. I’ll definitely be back next year. This report doesn’t do this show justice because I know there are a ton of things that I haven’t talked about. All I know is that if you love comics, then you need to go to Heroes Con.

P.S. – Mad props to John’s wife, Kellie for getting us beverages and food while we were doing our thing at the booth. Thanks for putting up with a bunch of nerds like us. :)

P.P.S. – Another set of props goes out to Jason Martin of SuperReal Graphics. Thanks for giving me some insight on the industry, being a really cool dude and knowing the lyrics to “Ya Mo B There” by Michael McDonald & James Ingram.

P.P.P.S. – I promise to post the pics this weekend. I promise!

R.I.P., Mr. Jackson.

michael_jacksonThat’s the Michael Jackson I remember.

I’ll be brief about this.

Michael changed pop music, music videos, the recording industry, and pop culture in general. He’s one of a handful of people that is “iconic” to a entire world.

Even though over the past 15 years he’s been more of a media spectacle and troubled, enabled soul than a recording artist, all I know is that right now three children lost a father, and a father outlived his son.

However, in the whole perspective of things, nearly 1 out of 10 Americans are unemployed, North Korea has nuclear weapons, and Iran has severe election issues.

No matter what, life moves on and we must reflect and move on.

R.I.P.,  Mr. Jackson.

PKD Media Presents: The PKD Media Spotlight!

2009-06-28-pkd_media_spotlight

As an indie comics/media creator, I thought that it would only be fitting to spread the word around about other indie creators, artists, writers and any other person from this artistic medium in this dog-eat-dog industry.

Starting Thursday July 8th, PKD Media will proudly present to you folks that you may be sleeping on, never heard of, might possibly know but never knew enough about, or maybe even forgot about.

It’s time that someone spread the word about these talented folk. PKD Media is all about spreading the love like a Barry White album.

Peace and good times.
